A very versatile location which benefits from 3 points to surf from. East beach, the lagoon and the slip. East beach and the lagoon are next to one another. East beach faces east and the lagoon south. The lagoon has a sand bar running to its East (this makes up part of the East Beach). The protective bar makes the lagoon a great flat water cross/off location for advanced riders. The bar is a nesting site for birds in the spring and summer. Please observe and respect signs which inform you of the nesting season. In this time please stay off the sand bar. The slip way has limited space to safely launch and land a kite but is popular with wind surfers.
North East to South-Easterly.
Drive north along the A718 towards Leswalt. Turn right at the round about after the golf club. Continue for a few miles and you will see the slip way / sailing club on your right. Carry on for half a mile for the beach parking. There is plenty of parking at the west of the lagoon and it is possible to drive to the East beach but parking is limited.
Keep clear of ferries. All Wig Bay locations can experience turbulent wind conditions. You are in Loch Ryan and does wind is Stranrear. There are safe landing places here but also a large commercial ferry terminal. The slips limited launch and landing area mean kite surfers should take extreme care.
