Here at Sands of Luce Holiday Park, we’re ready to make 2017 our best year yet! Here, new and returning guests can discover the most exciting things to see and do this year in and around the holiday park, with helpful information, local attractions and perfect days out for the entire family.

Visit The Mull of Galloway

As Scotland’s most Southerly point, there are an array of activities and attractions taking place around the visitors centre, and it’s only a beautiful 30 minute drive from the holiday park! The unique visitors facility gives you a chance to climb the lighthouse, indulge in the beautiful nature reserve and much more.

Logan Botanic Gardens

When? All year round
Warmed by the Gulf stream, the Logan gardens are a plantsman’s delight. This is the country’s most exotic garden and makes a beautiful walking day out, especially in the warmer weather.

Ardwell Gardens

Distance from Sands of Luce: 4.1 miles
When? All year round
An idyllic spot just around the corner, Ardwell Gardens is a walled outdoor garden filled with stunning views and growth of strawberries, raspberries and other seasonal treats. Visit in early May for the gorgeous woodland walks.

Logan Fish Pond

Distance from Sands of Luce: 6.9 miles
When? All year round
Port Logan’s famous fish pond is the world’s oldest marine life centre and is located on deep shore rocks with utterly breathtaking cliff-top views. A guaranteed great day out.

The Mull of Galloway Trail

Head to Portpatrick

Being just 15 minutes from the seaside town of Portpatrick, Sands of Luce is in the prime spot for a range of activities and events going on in the pastel-coloured paradise set around a small clifftop bay. A day of swimming or a browse at The Smuggler’s Cove Gift Shop are our particular favourites, especially if you’re looking for something utterly charming and out of the ordinary.

Take a tour of this special little shop to find hidden treasures like mugs, coasters, jewellery and merchandise. A favourite amongst residents and holidaymakers, this isn’t one to miss if you’re heading to Portpatrick for the day.

Go sea fishing

There is no better place to go sea fishing than in the Scottish coastline in Portpatrick. Here, we have it all whether you’re looking to throw a crab line over the wall or embark on an exciting shark fishing adventure with the kids.

Golf at Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club

This 9 hole course located on the coast makes a perfect day out for avid golfers or learners. Coaching and advice is available, additionally the club caters for small groups and large parties.

Take a trip to Stranraer

Best known for its ferry port and lying on the shores of Loch Ryan, Stranraer is a town for festivals and excitement. Although the town’s main attraction is Castle St John, there are plenty of things to see and do all year round in this well loved town.

Home to a range of leisure facilities, the award winning Agnew Park contains a large boating lake and boasts a fantastic day out for the entire family. Expect miniature railways, play equipment and stunning gardens.

The Ryan Leisure Centre & Theatre

A wet days favourite! A 25m swimming pool full of inflatables, water features and specific sessions, The Ryan Leisure Centre is a brilliant day out for the children whether they fancy a swim, a soft play session or a day of game playing. The fun doesn’t stop there, it’s also the ultimate treat for adults, boasting a fitness suite, health suite, theatre and film centre. You definitely won’t be short of things to do!

Stranraer Oyster Festival

Celebrate the local produce and coastal heritage of Stranraer at the oyster festival in Loch Ryan! An exciting and unique food and drink event for all ages to enjoy.

Parkfest

Although it’s a little festival, this one is certainly full of love and is bursting with family appeal. Designed to promote Stranraer Inshore Lifeboat, this non-profit organisation lives to save the sea.

Visit Stranraer Museum

Distance from Sands of Luce: 7.5 miles
When? All year round
Step inside the fascinating past and history of Wigtownshire and the local area. This free admission day out exhibits photography, farming and archaeology. An educational and interesting day just a short distance from the holiday park.

Visit Sandhead

Sandhead is on the shores of Luce Bay of the Rhins of Galloway and has a wonderful sandy beach that extends several miles long. This is our fantastic local village and boasts many attractions. The beach at Sandhead is very popular with boat owners and is ideal for taking the dog out for some fresh air and a run around.

Walk up Southern Upland Way

Not so much of a walk, but more of an experience, walking The Southern Upland Way is a popular attraction for our visitors at Sands of Luce Holiday Park. As Britain’s first coast-to-coast long distance foot path, the length of the challenge can be decided by you.

Wigtown is renowned as ‘Scotland’s National Book Town’ and home of the annual Wigtown Book Festival with a wide range of much-loved independent bookshops. As well as an array of novels and paperbacks, there are also plenty of places to eat out within the town. Being just over 30 minutes from Sands of Luce Holiday Park, Wigtown makes a perfect day out for the family during your stay. You may have to make more than one visit to do all that you’d like!

Creetown Gem Rock Museum

Discover the origins of crystals and identify organics, colours, gemstones and more in a magical day out to the gem rock museum. “An experience you will treasure forever” makes the ideal family day out with a lovely little gift shop to take a little piece home with you.

Do the 7stanes mountain bike trail at Kirroughtree Visitors Centre

At each of the stunning 7stanes locations, you’ll find a unique stone sculpture that reflects a local legend or myth of the area! These mountain biking centres are based in prominent locations in forest trails. If you’re a keen cyclist, this makes the perfect outdoor adventure for families and people of all ages.

Visit Garlieston Beach and Wigtown Bay

A wide sweeping beach with interesting walks and attractive coastal paths, follow the ruins of the Cruggleston castle and take a picnic to admire scenic views and fresh, Scottish air!

Visit the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory

For a full day of fun, the cocoa bean chocolate factory will certainly not disappoint. The kids can create in interactive workshops and play in the indoor and outdoor areas while adult and children’s chocolate workshops are available. This popular whisky facility is home to 200 years of scotch and boasts the country’s finest distillery and is one of the longest standing productions in Scotland. Perhaps a trip best for adults, The Bladnoch Distillery makes an educational and cultural trip when staying with Sands of Luce.
