Stranraer Oyster Festival

Where: Stranraer

When: Friday 13th September – Sunday 15th September

This three-day festival celebrates the start of the native oyster harvesting season on the Scottish coastline. Now in its third year, this festival boasts an array of events – from talks and entertainment, to oyster tasting, prepared by top chefs! The harbour-side location is simply stunning too, with views of the dramatic Loch Ryan coastline all around.

Wigtown Book Festival

This ten-day festival is held in Scotland’s national book town, Wigtown, and offers book events, theatre, music and more. Suitable for people of all ages, Wigtown Book Festival ensures fun for all the family! The 2019 programme has not yet been announced so do keep an eye out if you’re interested.



For those that are into their sports, there are some interesting festival options in Dumfries and Galloway this year. Typically running for longer than your average festival, there is plenty of time to attend one of these options if you’re interested!

Newton Stewart Walking Festival

Where: WRDC Business Centre, Newton Stewart

When: Friday 10th May – Thursday 16th May

This popular walking festival is the best way to experience Galloway’s wonderful landscape. With 30 walking routes across 7 days, there’s something for all experience levels, plus a number of social events in the evenings. Skiffieworlds 2019

Where: Stranraer

When: Sunday 7th July – Saturday 13th July

If you’re into coastal rowing, this international event is for you! Skiffieworlds will see competitors from all over the world compete in a number of races on Loch Ryan. Not only will you see some gripping coastal rowing races, but you will also be spoilt by the gorgeous coastline of South West Scotland.
