Dunes Electric Metering

I don't use apps or have a smartphone. What should I do?

No problem at all. Just let our team know when you arrive. We’ll get you settled on your pitch and set you up manually from reception.

I signed up with did not receive the verification email?

This is usually due to a mistyped email address. Pop into reception and we can double check your details and resend the link for you.

If you loose access to your account during your stay, we can easily send a fresh login link.

I want to extend my stay - will I lose access to my meter?

When extending your booking at reception, just remind the team to update your metering session too. It only takes a moment.

Can I pause my electricity when I'm off the pitch?

Yes. Use the ‘Pause‘ button on the app’s main screen. Power will turn off until you press ‘Power On‘ when you return.

Why am I seeing adverts pop up when scanning the QR code?

This only happens on some Android phones using free QR-scanning apps.

Please scan the QR code using the MetPow app or your phone’s built in camera, not a third party scanner.

Why does my caravan use more electricity than my home?

Caravans and motorhomes aren’t insulated like houses, so appliances work harder to heat or cool the space.

A few things to be aware of:

  • Electric heaters and water heaters use a lot of power.
  • Air fryers, kettles, hairdryers and fridge/freezers are high users.
  • Caravan electric showers are less efficient than home showers.
  • Heat escapes quickly through caravan walls compared to a house.

MetPow meters are fully certified and accurate – the readings reflect actual usage.

My Android phone blocks the website after scanning the QR code?

Some phones restrict QR-linked web pages. You can:

  • Adjust your phone settings.
  • Use the MetPow app instead.
  • Type the short web address printed on your pitch directly into your browser.
I accidentally ended my session - how do I turn the power back on?

Just drop into reception and we can reactivate it for you instantly.

Why has a sum of money been 'held' on my bank card?

MetPow (via Stripe) places a temporary hold on your card to ensure funds are available for any electricity used during your stay.

This amount depends on stay length and expected usage.

It is not a charge, just a pre-authorisation and will adjust automatically at the end of your stay.

Will I be charged extra on top of my pitch fee?

Only if usage is far above normal.

Electricity is still included in your pitch price – this system simply helps to ensure heavy users don’t fairly impact everyone else.

How can I avoid going over the daily allowance?

A few simple tips:

  • Switch appliances to gas if you can.
  • Pause your electric when you head out.
  • Avoid leaving heaters or water heater running constantly.
  • Don’t heat awnings.
  • Turn fridge/freezers down a notch.

Small changes can make a big difference.

How many units are included?

We will publish the current allowance clearly at reception.

Can unused units roll over to the next day?

No, they reset daily.

We have set a generous allowance to allow for natural day to day variations.

Which appliances use the most power?

Highest users –

  • Air fryers
  • Underfloor heating
  • Caravan electric showers
  • Water heaters
  • Fridge/freezers (on electric)
  • Heaters of any kind
  • Hairydryers
  • Kettles

Lowest users –

  • Lights
  • Phone chargers
  • TVs

Prospective owners should budget for insurance and utilities. Electric and gas is metered at every holiday home. The annual usage varies massively across each holiday home. It will depend on how modern the holiday home is and the amount of use it has had. We invoice every 6 months for utilities. Annual utilities bills vary from £50 to £1,500.

When are my site fees billed?
