Is the sea safe for swimming?
Yes, it is generally shallow, warm and calm. Perfect for paddling and swimming. Please do take proper consideration and precaution when swimming in the sea. Supervise, children, never go out of your depth, never swim alone etc. The tide does however go out a long way so sometimes you get a walk and a swim!
Is the park really midge free?
Mostly! Very rarely on exceptionally warm and still nights you may encounter midges around water ways but thankfully the little creatures really don’t bother us much at all.
How far is the beach?
We are on it! Our front row of lodges have deckings on to the sand.
Is there a risk from flooding/ severe weather?
The sea gets close but the park has survived some very extreme storms without major issue. The winter winds can be very strong but our spring/ summer season is a lot more civilised. We are an exposed Scottish park on the beach so you should be prepared for a bit of wild Scottish bracing weather!
Are you pet friendly?
We have pet friendly holiday homes for hire and all our touring and camping pitches are pet friendly. We ask all dogs are on a lead and all mess cleared immediately. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed within our bar or communal areas (laundry, toilet blocks etc). We are happy to suggest local dog friendly dinning options.
Is there plenty to entertain the kids?
We have some really great on site facilities for young children as well as an extensive summer activity programme. That said Sands of Luce is all about the beach and ‘getting out there’. If you are after big facilities to keep children entertained we may not be the park for you.
Can I arrive out of hours?
We try to facilitate all out of hours arrivals. If you are arriving beyond 7pm please call ahead to make arrangements.
Is the park open all year?
No. The park is closed for February our rental and touring season runs from March1st to October 31st.
Is there WiFi on site?
Yes it is a pay to use service and is suitable for general web browsing. It is not suitable for gaming or video streaming.
How far is the nearest shop?
Our local village of Sandhead is half a mile away and has a brilliant little shop. Bigger shops can be found in Stranraer 7 miles away where you will find a Morrisions, Tesco and Lidl.
Are there always activities on?
We do not have activities running all year but we do try to offer lots of varied activities during the peak holiday times.
What is your closest village?
We are half a mile from the village of Sandhead and it is a lovely walk along the beach to reach the village. There you can find a village shop, bar/ restaurant, tea rooms, doctors surgery and bowling green.
Are deposits refundable?
No. All deposits are none refundable. Where more than 6 weeks advance has been given we will create a credit note for another stay.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, we charge an extra £20 for a dog and £10 for a second to cover extra cleaning. The maximum number of dogs is 2. We ask that you bring a dog bed and do not allow the dogs out of the kitchen/ lounge area. Dogs are not allowed on the furnishings. Dogs must always be on a lead on site and all mess cleared up immediately.
Do you provide cooking utensils?
All common utensils are provided and if something is lacking we always do our best to provide it. If you are after a fondue or Sushi knife probably best to bring your own.
Is bed linen provided?
Yes apart from the sofa bed.
Are towels provided?
Is out door furniture provided.
Fisherman style chairs are provided and are only for use on the decking area.
Do the holiday homes have a sea view?
Sadly not but all are only a short walk to the beach.
Is an iron provided?
For fire safety reasons we do not provide irons. We do however provide them when requested.
Are the caravans warm?
Yes! All are double glazed and centrally heated. They also have an electric fire in the lounge. Perfect for the cooler months!
Do you offer wheelchair access?
We have one with an accessibility ramp. If you need further access assistance please get in touch and we can recommend a local specialist holiday provider.
Are the hot water showers charged for?
No. Hot water is free!
Do you have chemical toilet disposal points?
Yes and very near to our visitor pitches.
Is there grey water disposal?
Yes all our Dunes pitches have their own drain and we have a dedicated motorhome service point.
What is meant by a ‘Fully serviced super pitch’?
All pitches on our Dunes pitches are classed as ‘fully serviced super pitches’. This means they are hard standing, have dedicated water, power and drainage. They also all have sea views.
Can we reserve a specific pitch?
No. We guarantee an area but not a specific pitch. Pitches are issued on a first come first serve basis. They are however all of equally good quality.
Do all pitches have a sea view?
All Dunes pitches have sea view. Our Sandhead pitches do not but do offer better shelter.
Is there an age limit on caravans?
No. We are unique in offering no age limit on caravans. All we ask for is the caravans are kept clean and tidy. When you relinquish ownership if it is an older model we may choose not to resell it on site.
Do You offer finance?
Not directly but we are an approved introducer for Pegasus finance who have a number of highly competitive options. Give us a call for further information
When are site fees due?
You will be billed in January and fees are due generally mid march. You will always receive direct correspondence giving definitive due dates. Please note site fees can not be paid monthly.
Can I sub let my caravan?
In the interest of keeping a calm and relaxed park, no. We run a very small rental fleet and do not wish to have many visitors every weekend. You are welcome to let family and friends use your caravan but never for commercial gain.
Can I move my caravan off site?
Yes. The park provides a disconnection service and can help with transport.
Can I live in my caravan?
No. We are a holiday park not residential park.
Do all pitches have sea view?
No but many do. We also find that many of our customers prefer their non sea view but well sheltered rear pitches.
