Wigtown to Garlieston – 9 miles approx
Garlieston is a stunning little village located in Wigtown Bay harbour. This cycle route combines coastal and woodland scenery, with the added option of visiting the gardens of Galloway House. Prepare to indulge in fantastic views throughout your journey.
You can either do the full 22 mile loop from Wigtown through Sorbie to Garlieston or cycle straight through. However, the full loop of the trail and experience offers an abundance of rolling hills and charming villages within the Machars.
Sands of Luce Holiday Park to Wigtown – 28 miles
Crossing the Machars region, this exciting route reveals stunning beaches and coastline. Journey alongside riverside cycle paths from the sea to Scotland’s Book Town.
The cycle route takes approximately 2 hours each way, depending on your stops. Experience natural bird habitats, second-hand book shops and vibrant autumn leaves.
Kirroughtree to Larg Hill – 6 miles
This winding passage is a moderate 6 mile stretch and bestows some truly splendid views along the way. Being mainly singletrack, this attractive route surrounds the wooded Larg Hill (which is actually a mountain over 2000 ft!) and descends to the beautiful Big Bruntis Loch.
This exciting trail is made up of 50% swoops and twists and a few rock drops dotted along the way!
Glentrool to The Glen – 3.8 miles
This compact yet leisurely trail takes you around the picturesque Palnagashel Glen and winds along the banks through tall larch trees. Blending forest track and single track, this route is suitable to bikers of all levels.
As part of the 7stanes trail network, you will pass a number of gorgeous picnic spots, making it a perfect passage for the family.
Sands of Luce to the Mull of Galloway – 14.9 miles
Take in the beauty and splendour of the South Rhins by cycling to the most Southern point in Scotland, The Mull of Galloway.
This route is matchless for picture post card scenery. As you cycle south you will have Luce Bay on your left and the Irish sea on your right. Spot basking seals on route and call in to one of the many gardens that line the trail. Take a small detour into Port Logan to sample one of Scotland’s most stunning beaches.
The final stretch of winding road creeping up to the Mull of Galloway is well worth the climb. Hear you have one of the finest vistas Scotland has to offer. What’s more there is a rather good cafe to reward yourself with. Perfect!
Portpatrick to Newton Stewart – 34 miles
Starting from the ever beautiful and charming Portpatrick this route takes in the best of Galloway! Passing Castle Kennedy Gardens you meander up-hill to the village of New Luce in the Galloway Hills. Cycle among the sheep and cows of the region and fully immerse yourself in uninterrupted nature.
Once you have reached the top, pass through peaceful moorlands with a pub for refreshment. Take a longer route to Newton Stewart by Glentrool, with highlands scenery, then follow the River Cree to Newton Stewart.
St Ninian’s Way – Glenluce to New Luce – 5 miles
Shrouded in mystery, the beautiful St Ninian’s Way is a must for cyclists and travellers looking to discover the hidden treasures of Galloway.
This stunning route heads along Glenluce crossroads and north-west along road to Glenluce Abbey. An extra 6 km is optional by taking the Southern Upland Way.
