Kirkcudbright River Dee Walk
Distance: 7.6km
Type: River
Time: 2.5 hours
Difficulty level: Easy
Distance from park: 1-hour drive
This is a fantastic walk, which you can easily pair with a visit to the historic Kirkcudbright village. You could even start or finish this walk with a visit to one of the historic village pubs for some well-deserved food and drink!
The River Dee walk follows a well-surfaced path, making it suitable for people of all ages and walking abilities. With fantastic views of the tidal river and wonderful birdwatching spots along the way!
The circular walk allows you to experience a wide range of scenery, from the historical architecture of the Kirkcudbright village and large parks (with a children’s play area – a perfect picnic spot) to woodlands, mud flats, and even a glimpse at Cumstoun House! Before the walk loops back via an old railway bridge to Kirkcudbright village.
A great walk for those looking for an easy, flat stroll with plenty of things to see and do along the way!

Galloway Forest Park, sometimes referred to as the ‘highlands of the lowlands’, is something you wouldn’t want to miss. The rugged landscapes, remote glens, ancient woodlands and peaceful lochs and bubbling streams can make you feel like you’ve been transported to a magical, fantasy land!
Home to 100s of walking routes, Galloway Forest Park is one of the largest parks of its kind in Britain. Covering over 300 square miles of outstanding natural beauty, if you’re staying at Galloway holiday park, this is a must-visit area.
Choose between gentle lochside strolls, climb to Bruce’s stone for a panoramic view over Loch Trool or challenge yourself with a steep, strenuous scramble to Murray’s Monument for spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.
However you would like to challenge yourself, at Galloway Forest Park there is a walk for everyone, make them as long, strenuous and adventurous as you would like.

Ardwell Pond Walk

Looking for an easy but charming Scottish walk nearby? Look no further than the Ardwell Pond walk. In our opinion, a perfect short and enjoyable walk after a day relaxing on the beach or eating at our lighthouse bar is the perfect way to round up a great day on holiday!
The Ardwell Pond walk is a circular walk taking you through woodlands, over stone bridges and around the beautiful Ardwell Pond. This fabulous nature reserve has something to offer throughout the year, from budding daffodils and bluebells in the spring to crispy golden leaves in the autumn this walk will not disappoint.

The Merrick From Loch Trool
Distance: 12.8km
Type: Hills and vast terrain
Time: 4-5 hours
Difficulty level: Moderate to Difficult (at times there is no pathway to follow and you will have to pick your way along the terrarium)
Distance from park: 50-minute drive
Reach the highest summit in Southern Scotland and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Galloway landscape, Loch Trool, Galloway Forest and on a clear day even the Isle of Man. The popular ascent, from Loch Trool, provides the easiest way up, although if you’re up for a challenge, there are other routes, such as the Loch Valley.
Starting at the car park, your walk will take you past many beautiful landmarks and viewing points, including the infamous Bruce’s Stone, a cairn built in 1929 commemorating a battle where 300 men defeated the 1500 calvary strong English army.
When you reach the summit, you will be treated to unrivalled panoramic views of Loch Trool and the wild and empty countryside. Avoid boggy paths and pathless sections by retracing your steps and find your way back to your car which can then take you back to the Sands of Luce campsite for a cup of tea and sit down!

Glenkiln Reservoir

Difficulty level: Easy to moderate
Distance from park: 1.5 hour drive
Glenkiln reservoir, home to the Glenkiln sculpture park has a rich history and an even richer landscape. The walk, which is perfect for families as well as serious walkers, takes you around the large reservoir, in the shadows of the spectacular Scottish heather and bracken-covered hills.
The eight-kilometre loop is great for dog walkers, young families or those wanting to enjoy an easier, shorter walk. The paved trail will give you fantastic views of the reservoir and surrounding countryside around the walk.
While you may come across livestock and cattle grids, this quiet walk means you’ll be unlikely to run across many others exploring the area!

Mull of Galloway Trail

- Difficulty: Strenuous – for experienced country walkers with an above average fitness level
- Distance from park: 26 minutes / 13.9 miles (Though does pass through the park)
Walk the Mull of Galloway trail and discover the beautiful countryside through seabird colonies, breathtaking views of the cliffs, gorgeous sunsets, and a lighthouse. This trail permits you to explore the coast on both sides of the peninsula, with long and short options, you can choose a longer or shorter distance by returning along the road from West Tarbet, this will reduce the walk by 3.5km. If you’re looking for a feeling of pure tranquility in Scotland’s paradise, this is the path you’ll want to follow.

Castle Douglas Town Trail

- Distance from park: 53.3 miles // 1 hour 10-minute drive
This trail is the perfect way to explore the Castle Douglas town with your family. The route is circular, but you can wander in whichever way takes your fancy and make the walk your own. The paved streets make for a very suitable terrain for pushchairs and wheelchairs too. With easy parking and lots to see and do, the Castle Douglas Town Trail is an excellent choice for you this summer.
